A 44-YEAR-OLD businessman and his girlfriend in Muar did not realise that their credit cards had benn stolen and used several times.
They only knew after their bank called them the next day and informed them that almost RM9,000 worth of goods had been bought with their cards.
Ng Chai Kee, 44, received a call on May 17 regarding hsi credit card transactions amounting to RM4,825.86.
Ng said he and his girlfriend, who only wanted to be known as Liew, 43, suspected that their credit cards could have been stolen and swapped when they went jogging in Tanjung Ketapang on May 16.
They had put their cards in the glove compartment of Ng's car.
"That afternoon, my girlfriend could not used her credit card at a hypermarket because the cashier told her that the card was not hers and it belonged to someone else," he said.
"She then called me and asked if my credit card was still with me. When I cheched my wallet, the card was there but I did not check the name. The next day when I was in Malacca, my banker called and asked if I had charged a total of RM4,825.86 to my card, " Ng said.
Only then did he realise that the card in his wallet belongs to one Jack Jok.
He discovered that his debit card had also been swapped but was lucky because no transaction had taken place as a PIN number was required.
Ng said a check with the bank showed that Liew's card had been swiped four times amounting to RM4,046.35 while his card had been swiped 12 times.
Ng also said he had not receive any word from the police although he had lodged a report on May 19.
He related his experience recently after lodging a complaint at the office of Bentayan assemblyman Gwee Tong Hiang.
Muar police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohamad Nasir Ramli confirmed that the case had been referred to Bank Negara.
